During the Summer Term 1999,
Nick was invited by Wolverhampton Chamber of Commerce to conduct
a series of Anti-bullying Workshops in two South Staffordshire
primary schools and seven Wolverhampton primary schools. This
was one in a programme of workshops offered to schools as part
of the Wolverhampton Primary Compact Scheme.
The schools that took part
were:
in South Staffordshire,
Bhylls Acre Primary
and
Blakeley Heath Primary,
in Wolverhampton,
Elston Hall Primary,
Oak Meadow Primary,
Parkfield Primary,
St Anthony's Roman Catholic Primary,
St Stephen's Church of England Primary,
Wednesfield Village Primary,
and
Whitgreave Junior School.
The Workshop contained the
following sections:-
Introduction
A talk and presentations of
Nick's Publications, original illustrations, working manuscripts
and correspondence with publisher's.
Drama - Bullying Plays
Introduction
Rehearsals in small group
of eight pre-prepared role-plays
Performance of the role-plays
and a discussion on their content.
[The bully always got away with it!]
Collaborative Writing
In small groups write and
perform a role play.
[The bully doesn't get away with it and is stopped.]
Discuss the role-plays.
Give out Advice Leaflets.
Why Pick On Me? What Should
I Do If I'm Bullied?
(Devised for children to
use.)
I think my child is being
bullied. What should I do?
(Devised for parents/carers
to use.)
The Anti-bullying Workshop
lasted the whole of a morning or afternoon session.
Nick still regularly leads these
workshops across the country,
at the request of interested schools.
